Just about everyone, at some point in their life, seeks remedies for headaches. Most headaches result from tension. Tension produces pain in the neck and shoulders resulting in constriction of the blood vessels and blood circulation resulting in headaches. Stress, guilt, fear, anger, depression, and rage are all contributing factors to tension headaches.

Underlying health problems can also result in headaches—everything from sinusitis to nutritional imbalance, spinal misalignment to PMS, poor circulation to TMJ, are all culprits. Food allergies and additives, cigarette smoke, air pollutants, poor ventilation, certain drugs, chemicals, and overexposure to the sun are also factors.

The proper diagnosis of a particular headache type makes treatment much more explicit and easier to manage. As a way to discover headache pain relief, being open to alternatives in the variety of crystal-based remedies, techniques, and therapies may help.

Crystals Helpful for Headaches

Particular crystals known to be helpful for headache therapies include: Amethyst, Aventurine, Cat’s Eye, Optical Calcite, Charoite, Dioptase, Lapis Lazuli, Lizard Stone, Jasper, Jet, Cherry Opal, Clear Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Sugilite, Topaz, and Turquoise.

Massage therapy not only treats those parts of you, which are a problem but also affects the whole of your metabolism through normalizing your circulatory, muscular, and nervous systems and their interdependent functioning. Therapy massage is usually done with soothing oils or relaxing body lotions for the practitioner’s hands to “glide” over the body with smooth, relaxing strokes.

Technique: With a crystal sphere about the size of a tennis ball or smaller, lay on the floor and place the sphere under you in the points between and under the shoulder blades. Massage the area by gently rocking over the sphere. Move the sphere around to different trigger points on your back.

Focus on the trapezius muscles, located at the base of the neck, at the base of the skull, and even in the dimples of the buttock, for here is where we hold a lot of tension. This is the tension that crawls all the way up the spine to the behind the shoulder blades, which in turn burn up to the base of the skull. Let your body relax over the sphere until the tension dissolves.

Muscle testing: A simple kinesiology technique can relieve many non-sinus headaches. The method works very quickly and is one you do for yourself.

Meridian Headache Therapy: The Gall Bladder Meridian

This technique works on headaches located anywhere on the upper part of the head, such as in the forehead, temples, or down the back of the head and neck. The meridian (energy flow) Involved is called the gall bladder meridian. It covers the upper part of the head, then flows down the back of the neck, down the sides of the torso and legs, and eventually end on the fourth toe of each foot.

Headaches are generally caused by a build-up of energy in this meridian; energy that, for some reason, gets blocked in the head area. To relieve this blocked condition, simply massage a point further down the meridian to encourage the energy to flow out of the head and neck area. Standing and letting your arms hang loosely at your sides can find this massage point.

About where your middle finger touches your thigh (on both sides of the body), you will find a spot that Is very tender or even painful to touch when you have a headache. The spot might be a little above or below, or a little to the front or to the back of the point where your middle finger touches the thigh, but you will find it in that vicinity, somewhere close by.

Technique for a Non-migraine Headache

Massage these spots with your crystal sphere or massage stone with as much pressure as is comfortable for ten seconds, let off for ten seconds, massage for another ten seconds, let off for ten seconds, and massage it one more time for ten seconds. Remember to breathe slowly and evenly as you do a massage. You will probably notice by the time you are done massaging that a headache is beginning to go away, and within two or three minutes a headache will disappear completely.

Deep breathing is a great tension reliever! Take note: You are doing it right if your stomach is moving more than your chest. Check yourself for signs that you are tensing up and inviting headache pain—clenched teeth, clenched fists, hunched shoulders.

Acupressure studies have proven it effective for both tension headaches and migraines. Use your hands or a single terminated crystal. Both self-massage and acupressure can help. Two key points for reducing pain with acupressure are:

“LI 4,” the web between your forefinger and thumb (squeeze there until you feel pain), and “GB 20,” under the bony ridges at the back of the neck (use both thumbs to apply pressure there). Excessive noise is a common trigger for tension headaches.

Chakra Balancing and Crystal Remedies for Headaches

Chakra balancing stimulates the seven main energy sources, which govern all the major organs and psychologically alters and clears the body’s energy to allow healing to take place. This means that the polarities of the crystal will change when subjected to pressure or heat (even body heat from the hands). This will radiate energy from the crystal due to this reversal of polarities. It provides the transfer, storage, and transformation of energy. It offers a balanced energy field, an energy modification, which amplifies both energy and thought, clarity in thinking, and harmony and alignment with the chakra energy areas.

Lower chakra technique: this technique is applied to bring the energy down from The head and ground it. In addition to the positions shown in the chart, place amethyst on the third eye chakra, lapis at the throat chakra, and smoky quartz at the root chakra. Relax with this configuration for about 15-20 minutes.

A Special Technique for Headaches, Using Quartz

Most pain needs the energy to repair itself. Headaches are due to too much energy in the head. Energy flows in and out of the head through the Brow and Crown Chakra. When a blockage occurs, usually this is emotionally related, the energy cannot be released and the excess pressure causes pain. Excess energy needs to be removed.

Place a quartz crystal point in your dominant hand with the point upward. Place this hand with the crystal on the solar plexus chakra. Place the other hand on the headache pain. This energy transfer from the head to the power center of the solar plexus can take up to 30 minutes. Through this process, allow your body to breathe deeply with your eyes closed. The energy transferred to the solar plexus actually balances the whole entire body system, ridding the head of the pain.

Gem Essence: An excellent combination for headaches is amethyst, aventurine, and lapis. Make a gem essence with these stones. Apply the essence by massaging it into the neck and shoulders at the onset of a migraine. You will be amazed at how this has the ability to stop a headache.

Crystal Tips for Migraines

*Quartz, amethyst, lapis, and smoky quartz are valuable stones for this disorder. The idea is to bring the energy down from the head and to “release” the tension.

*Consider using your crystals in acupressure points, trigger points and for calming the body with massage, chakra balancing and an aura cleansing.

*Carry grounding stones, such as smoky quartz, jet, and jasper.

*Create a gem essence with amethyst, aventurine, and lapis. Massage this into the neck and shoulders at the onset of a migraine.

*Cross your right hand to your left shoulder. Where your middle finger touches, tap a magnetic hematite stone to this area. Repeat with your left hand to your right shoulder. Magnetic hematite is used as in magnet therapy. Magnets move blood from surrounding tissue to improve circulation. Caution: do not use
magnetic hematite if you have a pacemaker.
